LABORATORY ACTIVITIES
The main and primary activity of the Laboratory is scientific work.
The Laboratory studies the biology and morphology of helminths, the ecology of intermediate hosts, parasite cenosis relationships and taxonomy. It explores biological methods for the control and prevention of parasitic diseases. It conducts regular epizootic monitoring of parasitoses in domestic and wild animals, assesses the sanitary and parasitological parameters of environmental contamination by invasive stages of zoonotic pathogens, which gives an opportunity to study routes of transmission and infection of humans. Its employees develop and improve methods for the diagnosis and differentiation of nematodiasis in animals including application of genetic methods.

The Laboratory has developed and widely implemented biological basis for pasture prevention of animal helminthiasis and helminthological assessment of water sources as a method for prevention of helminthiasis in birds. The effect of bacteria, actinomycetes and predatory fungi on helminths, and the pathogenic effect of microsporidia on fish diplostomes were studied, and the role of oligochaetes Chaetogaster in destruction of trematode larvae was revealed. The ecology of intermediate hosts of helminths, and the epizootic role of earthworms as reservoir hosts of the causative agent of ascariasis and heterakidosis of chickens have been studied, and relationship of Ascaridia, Capillaria and Coccidia in the intestines of chickens has been revealed. The parasite fauna of bears and musk deer (Moschus moschiferus) in the northeast of Gorny Altai and in the Middle Sikhote-Alin was studied.

The employees go on business trips regularly to collect and organize parasitological material and take an active part in international conferences.

The Laboratory supervises degree theses in parasitology made by the 5th year students of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Moscow State University of Food Production". It participates in development of guidelines and recommendations for students, curricula for advanced training courses for veterinarians and students in disciplines "Parasitology and Invasive Diseases of Animals" and "Parasitic Pathology".

The Laboratory provides a wide range of paid services
