DIAGNOSTIC STUDY LABORATORY

Head of Laboratory

Anastasia Sergeevna Pavlova

The Laboratory’s main purpose is laboratory diagnostic activities designed to ensure early identification and to prevent communication among animals and humans of diseases caused by PBAs (pathogenic biological agents) of III-IV pathogenicity groups as well as work with PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups to perform officially assigned research work (R&D), or other Branch’s R&D.

The Laboratory performs the following types of activity using PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups and objects or materials containing or being suspicious for PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups:

1) diagnostic studies of objects of biotic and abiotic origins to identify PBA markers (PBA indication), including determination of agent’s biological origin to isolate and identify PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups;

2) experimental activity including manipulations at the cellular level;

3) manufacturing activity (work to manufacture diagnostic test systems or other products using parasitic disease vectors of III-IV pathogenicity groups);

4) disinfection of any material that contains, or is suspicious for, PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups;

5) zoological and entomological activities including the collection of zoological and parasite material or environmental objects in areas that are endemic for natural focal infections, and its transportation; management of wild vertebrates and arthropods;

6) activities related to the collection of clinical, sectional or any other biological material of animals that contains, or is suspicious for, PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups, including during post mortem examination of animal carcasses, to undertake research in detecting and identifying PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups;

7) storage, transfer and transportation activities of PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups (collection activity);

8) educational activities using PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups;

9) other types of activities using PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups or objects and materials containing or being suspicious for PBAs of III-IV pathogenicity groups.
